OUR FAVORITE PRODUCTS FROM KROGER

If you follow us over on Instagram (@themealplanningmethod) you'll commonly see Kroger pop-up in our posts, stories, and meal plans. Being a nutrition nerd, I could truly shop at ANY grocery store, but for us Kroger is our typical one-stop-shop place to get all our ingredient needs week-to-week.  And it doesn't hurt that's it's so close to home! 

Kroger, of course, has their own line of products, including Private Selection, so I thought I'd share our very favorite buys that you can find in our fridge and pantry on any given day. Check 'em all our top picks from Kroger below!

OUR 6 FAVORITE PRODUCTS FROM KROGER

  1. Kroger Blended Nonfat Greek Yogurt Cup - These zero fat Greek yogurts come in a variety of flavors (vanilla, mixed berry, black cherry, etc.) with 0g of added-sugar!  They're sweetened with stevia and typically <$1.00 each. 
  2. Kroger Fat-Free Refried Beans - Kroger's fat-free refried beans seriously taste like they're from a Mexican restaurant. Taco (or burrito or quesadilla) night is not complete without them in our household! 
  3. Kroger Lemon Lime Seltzer Water - Sometimes you just need something cold and bubbly to refresh you and these lemon lime seltzer waters from Kroger really hit the spot. We've tried many brands of sparkling water and this rivals even the best! 
  4. Private Selection Indian Inspired Tikka Masala Simmer Sauce - Making a flavorful weeknight dinner couldn't be easier with this Private Selection tikka masala simmer sauce. We typically mix frozen onions, frozen riced cauliflower, and canned chickpeas together with this sauce and serve with some toasted naan. YUM! 
  5. Private Selection Ranchera Salsa - I feel like finding a really delicious jarred salsa is an impossible task. Well once you taste this ranchera salsa from Private Selection you will be hoarding the stuff like mad!  The flavor is FANTASTIC, probably because the ingredients are super simple.  This is a Kroger must-buy. 
  6. Private Selection Really Seedy Multigrain Tortilla Chips​​ - Since this list seems to be the start of a very delicious Mexican meal at home, might as well shoutout to our favorite tortilla chip from Private Selection.  Their Really Seedy Multigrain variety is hearty and fit for the chunkiest of dips.  (It'll even stand up to those refried beans we mentioned!)  These chips actually have flavor which it makes it that much more enjoyable.

HOW WE MEAL PLANNED WITH OSCAR MAYER EVERYDAY

When you hear "Oscar Mayer," what do you think of?  Hot dogs?  Wieners?  Do you want to sing "I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wienerrrrrr... that is what I truly wish to beeeee"? 
🎶🌭​ Well, it might surprise you to know that Oscar Mayer makes everything from franks (yes!) and kielbasa to bacon and deli meats too.  So, the options are truly endless when it comes to meal planning with Oscar Mayer products.  Keep scrolling to see just how we did this and WHY.

WHY CHOOSE OSCAR MAYER? 

Did you know that 2017, Oscar Mayer actually took out artificial preservatives, added nitrates and nitrites and by-products for a better dog across their whole product line?!  You can see the claims right on their packaging!

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL WITH NITRATES & NITRITES? 

Both nitrates and nitrites are popular preservatives for meat and often used to cure meats to prevent the bacteria that causes botulism to grow.  This curing can lead to the formation of potentially cancer-causing (carcinogenic) chemicals.  Yikes. 

Luckily, Oscar Mayer offers many high quality products that we can feel good about enjoying without also giving up the foods we love most! Just ch
eck out how we meal planned with a variety of these artificial preservative-free and no-added nitrate/nitrite Oscar Mayer goodies everyday for a whole week!

Here are our meal plan details... 
  • MONDAY: Our "One-Pot Chili" recipe + Oscar Mayer Lean Beef Uncured Franks for a fun take on Chili Dogs, but without the mess.  
  • TUESDAY: BALTs made with Oscar Mayer Natural Smoked Uncured Bacon
  • WEDNESDAY: Leftovers! 
  • THURSDAY: Ate out. 
  • FRIDAY: Turkey Caesar Wraps with Oscar Mayer Natural Slow Roasted Turkey Breast
  • SATURDAY: We tried this new "Chicago-Style Hot Dog Salad" from Tablespoon. 
  • SUNDAY: We threw together a Sheet Pan Sausage & Veggies meal with Oscar Mayer Natural Uncured Turkey Sausage that is definitely making it onto our Master Meals list!

HOW-TO CREATE YOUR MASTER GROCERY LIST

Hey friends! 

Since launching The Meal Planning Method a few years ago, we've certainly had our fair share of grocery lists.  And as you get really consistent with the habit of meal planning each week, you start to notice the same foods popping up on your grocery list week after week - such as bread, milk, and bananas. 

If you've gotten to this point, and are becoming a regular meal planner, you might find a "MASTER GROCERY LIST" helpful each week.  A Master Grocery List is designed to encompass foods you frequently buy at the grocery store, allowing for you to meal plan even quicker and lessen the chance of you forgetting common fridge/pantry staples each week.  Sounds pretty sweet, right?

​Now the exact foods that YOU should include in YOUR Master Grocery List are 100% based off of what YOU and YOUR household frequently needs.  For example, my household eats oats daily, whereas yours may never touch them but every once in a while.  There is no right or wrong type of "Master Grocery List".  Your Master Grocery List should ultimately be a reflection of what ends up in your fridge, pantry, and freezer week after week because you eat those foods often.  And it's no surprise to hear that this can only happen if you're truly sticking to The Meal Planning Method and making that grocery list before you go to the store each week!  Here's an example of what our Master Grocery List looks like...

What you see here is 2 copies of my Master Grocery List on one standard-sized letter paper. 
  • The text highlight in yellow is what I added (via Microsoft Word), again, based off what my household inevitable eats week after week, no matter the meal plans 
  • Where you see "enter text" are additional editable fields, if in the future I want to add or modify my Master Grocery List 
  • Now, I can quickly print and cut this Master Grocery List to add to with any additional ingredients I need for my meal plans each week! 

PRO TIP: For grocery list making, in general... it's good practice to include a food item and cross it off if not needed, rather than trying to remember to add it  and forgetting, or worse, thinking you have enough of an item and turns out you don't. :/
