Hey friends! The holiday season is no doubt filled with tradition, but none more anticipated than what comes Christmas morning. (Because gifts, duh.) But whether your family immediately tears into presents, finds the pickle ornament, or watches the Christmas Day Parade together, there's one other tradition I want to encourage you to start... CHRISTMAS MORNING WAFFLES! But not just any waffles now... I've made this beloved breakfast food fun and festive by adding in natural red and green coloring and opting for a simple solution that will put fresh waffles on the dining table in minutes. Keep scrolling for my healthier holiday waffles recipe! Are waffles healthy? When you think of traditional waffles, the term "healthy" doesn't exactly come to mind. Waffles tend to be grain-heavy (ignoring the other essential food groups) and tend to be covered with added-fat (butter) and sugar (syrup). This is all good and fine in moderation -- remember, one meal or one snack does NOT define your regular diet -- but I took the approach of making this recipe just a little more balanced by getting in some protein. What's the secret? The solution is super simple... use a pre-made high-protein pancake/waffle mix! HEALTHIER HOLIDAY WAFFLESSERVING: per 1 cup pancake/waffle mix INGREDIENTS:

We love how the wheatgrass and beet powders add a beautiful, natural hue to these waffles. You can absolutely eat these with a variety of toppings:

DISCLOSURE: I received Embossed Co. product complimentary. All opinions are my own. Happy December friends! In this season of celebration, sometimes it can feel like special moments sparkle just a *little* bit less because they're so "manufactured" or "cookie-cutter" with the convenience and ease of holiday products and services now-a-days. (Store-bought cookies vs. homemade cookies... we get it!) But let me share about a super fun product that will take your baked goods to level EXTRA without a lot of fuss. Meet EMBOSSED CO. ROLLING PINS! These gorgeous patterned rolling pins make decorating your best baked goods a cinch. Check out how we used the "Leaves" embossed rolling pin at our recent Friendsgiving. What are Embossed Rolling Pins?Embossed makes engraved rolling pins out of 100% beechwood that are beautiful, food-safe, and BPA-free. There are a variety of patterns including snowflakes and reindeer. And their website states the pins will "last a lifetime"! We just love how the "Leaves" embossed rolling pin added a little something special to these homemade 3-Ingredient Crackers we made to go along with our Better-For-You Cheese Board! After a good flouring of the embossed rolling pin, indenting the cracker dough with my leaf pattern was incredibly easy and I think they turned out great! It definitely added an unique and one-of-a-kind element to our very store-bought (Costco) cheese board. An EMBOSSED CO. ROLLING PIN is the perfect gift for your baker or foodie-friend this holiday season! How would you use an Embossed Co. baking tool? Hey friends! The holiday season is in full swing and we are bracing for impact! To be honest, during this time of year it really is so hard to balance it all...
So, what comes in the Kirkland Signature Cheese Flight? This Costco cheese flight (item #1273361) comes with 5 cheeses, including:
Now how do you make a healthier cheese board? To fully answer this question, we have to recognize that cheese...
There are a few cheeses that are lower in fat and lower in salt, but this BETTER-FOR-YOU CHEESE BOARD we're sharing takes the approach of... (1) moderation with the cheeses and (2) choosing more nutritious sides to accompany all the cheese options. Go for a 1:1 ratio, so for every cheese there's also a nutritious side to pair it with. Keep reading for some ideas! What are some nutritious sides for a BETTER-FOR-YOU CHEESE BOARD?**Pictured: Kirkland Signature Cheese Flight, red grapes, dried figs, baby pickles, mixed roasted nuts, and homemade whole-grain crackers.
Now that you know how to choose better-for-you ingredients for your BETTER-FOR-YOU CHEESE BOARD, you just need to assembled the goods! Don't stress over the perfect serving platter. A simple cutting board or large plate can work just fine as you really want the cheeses and accompaniments to shine. So friends, next time you have a get-together that calls for something satisfying with a touch of extra (without actually costing a lot extra), I hope you'll remember Costco's Kirkland Signature Cheese Flight as it's the perfect foundation for a BETTER-FOR-YOU CHEESE BOARD. |
